MARTA AND CLAYTON COUNTY TO HOLD GROUNDBREAKING FOR OPERATIONS & MULTIPURPOSE FACILITY

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), along with jurisdictional partner Clayton County will hold a groundbreaking celebration for the Clayton County Operations & Multipurpose Facility on Friday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. The project is set to generate approximately 700 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs and once complete, will support both diesel and battery-electric buses for the county’s expanding transit system.

The facility will significantly enhance transit services by supporting 31 bus routes throughout the region. Designed to accommodate MARTA’s growing fleet, the facility will include:

  • Parking for 290 buses
  • Fueling area
  • Fare retrieval system
  • Bus wash
  • Employee wellness center
  • Police precinct

MARTA secured $33 million in federal funding for this project through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), which includes two grants for Buses and Bus Facilities, as well as a $5 million earmark obtained by Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock. MARTA has also directed $5.6 million in FTA formula grants to support the project.

“The robust federal support for this project highlights its critical importance to Clayton County and the entire South Metro Atlanta area,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “This facility will enable us to continue providing reliable transit service in Clayton while creating meaningful job opportunities and investing in the community. For MARTA, it signifies our commitment not just to transit, but to being an integral part of the local economy and the communities we serve.”
